Compote Envy

The Chapel Designers...who are we...what are we about. We are about beautiful flowers and designs. Perhaps beyond that we are about camaraderie. We are about supporting each other in the day to day business of creating no matter where we live. We are about sharing ideas. We are about laughing with each other. We are about caring about each other on a level beyond business associates. We are almost 40 strong with a love of beautiful things created from nature.

On our recent trip to gather in New York City, many of our group had the opportunity to take a course at Flower School New York; The Art of the Compote with Areiella Chezar as the instructor. Ahh...the compote...such a simple vessel.
Carol and I were instantly drawn to the pieces we saw emerge from this class. Our group suddenly became compote crazy, at least those who weren't already in that category. Across the country there was a search on for "compotes"...where, what color, can you paint them, what materials. We have had a great time watching the designs emerge from this group of Chapel Designers.
Isha Foss, one of our group, came up with the idea of a Blog Blitz...for lack of a better title. What if each of us created a compote and then posted it on our blog? What if we each then provided a link to all the other blogs in our blog posting? Well, you can imagine people jumped at the idea. An idea is born and embraced.
We had a great time designing in our compotes and are happy to share the results. As much as we love our compotes...what we really LOVE is being a part of the Chapel Designers!

Here are our compote designs! We certainly hope that our west coast brides come to embrace this style. We would love to see them featured in some of their weddings!

Ribbon Love

We are so excited to see the return of beautiful ribbons in wedding work! It seems that the past several years there has been a downtrend in ribbon usage. We have started seeing some beautiful bridal bouquets in publications and on stellar designer's websites.

We were thrilled to see one of our bride's inspiration photos to be one of Ariella Chezar's amazing bouquets, shown here. Amazing flowers and bouquet, and LOVE the ribbons!

You can imagine how excited we were to actually take a class in NYC from Ariella. More from that experience later in this post.

Here are some photos of our ribbon escapades on our NYC trip in March.

We started at M & J Trimmings. We walked into this destination and were overwhelmed with amazing ribbons, trimmings, appliques, brooches and more. Every direction we turned, it was floor to ceiling eye candy!

Our last day in the big city and one last stop. Good that ribbons are easy to pack!

Our next stop was Hyman Hendler and Sons. This store was absolutely amazing. Full of vintage ribbons from around the world, in addition to many of their standard ribbons. From their website "Vintage Novelties Ribbon Collection, consist of Jacquards, Brocades, Florals, and Stripes in combinations of Satin and Grosgrain, Satin-Grosgrain-Moiré, Satin and Velvet – stripes and plaids, with plain or scalloped edges." Oh my!

Gorgeous stripes...I think we had to touch most of these!

Some absolutely luscious shades of double faced satin. How to even begin to choose?

Then there was the selection of black and white! Instant love!

These next few photos are from our fellow Chapel Designer, Liz Rusnac. Tinsel Trading was the third stop on our adventure. Once again, amazing trims, ribbons, silk flowers and overall wonderful. I think we were so overwhelmed our cameras never came out. Thanks for sharing these photos Liz. We are glad someone had their wits about them!

One of the many highlights of our week in NYC was our design class with Ariella Chezar at the Flower School New York! Are you kidding me? So wonderful to be in the same studio, let alone design there!

Celebration Florals Heads to NYC!

We recently returned from a wonderful trip to New York City! How did this come about? Social Media! We have followed a fellow designer on the east coast for many years. Last year she asked via Twitter Who wants to come to NYC? We were a bit slow last year (and had no idea how Twitter worked) and didn't attend. Instead, we followed along on her blog... Not this year! Oh, what an experience and where to begin?I think a little bit at a time, is best. There were so many amazing events, I just want to tell about all of them!
We flew to NYC on Saturday in order to be ready for the first event on Sunday night. We had really no idea what to expect. We all met up at Matthew Robbins Design Studio. Our hostess, Holly Heider Chappel greeted us at the door with a copy of Matthew's newest book. Stepping over that threshold signaled the beginning of our NYC Chapel Designer's flower adventure! I am not sure we knew what to expect. Almost 40 floral designers in the same room at the same time? AND Matthew Robbins? Wow...

A Southern touch for Amy and Steve

Our wonderful couple Amy and Steve came to us with an inspiration photo found in a magazine. Many of our couples do. They see something about the colors, the style, the feel in a photo. We love to help develop their dream from there. When Amy mentioned her southern roots, we knew where we were heading...raw cotton bolls and magnolia...LOVE!
Late January in Oregon can provide some interesting weather. The week prior we had snow and lots of rain. The wedding day though proved to have clear skies, even some blue skies! BeckenRidge Vineyard was beautiful in it's winter state. Actually, went perfectly with the day.
We love photographers who capture our work in a way that we just cannot! How we love the photographs from Angela of Tekoa Rose Photography! Keep scrolling for more!

We love succulents and managed to get a picture of this from the bride's bouquet. The white frilly tulips aren't too bad, either! One of our favorites and not very easy to come by! This bouquet also had air ferns, silver brunia, white wax flower, dusty miller, seeded eucalyptus and southern magnolia!

Each Maids bouquet was similar to the bride, minus some of the goodies. We added the raw cotton to their bouquets for some fun accents!

The bride chose pewter, cream and white as her colors. The flower girl orb started with an orb of pewter satin ribbon with the small flower accents. We love how this look worked the pewter into her flowers. Such sweetness! Thanks again Angela for capturing it for us!

Small cocktail bistro tables were accented with black cube vases with pewter accents and a fun assortment for flowers.

Amy and Steve chose a combination of both tall and low centerpieces for their reception. White hydrangeas provided the base for these pieces. Beautiful seeded eucalyptus, curly willow and southern magnolia finished off the tall pieces. The low centerpieces included some silver brunia and white waxflower. Loved the finished look of the room!

We would be remiss in not mentioning our friend Heidi and her wonderful Sweet Dreams Cupcakery! We love our flowers, we also LOVE Heidi and her treats! Oh my...just take a peek..

CONGRATULATIONS to Steve, Amy and Shadow! We loved getting to know you! Happy married life!

Courtney and Jake are Married!

We so enjoyed working with our first 2012 bride and her mother. They had a great vision for Courtney and Jake's wedding. Courtney had a vision of what she wanted her bouquet to look like. Peonies and garden roses in whites, creams, and peach. We loved the addition of tropical tuberose. This bouquet was heavenly scented. Soft, romantic, and lush.

We loved our first bride of 2012! We loved that we were able to find her peonies! We think she loved them, too!

LOVE this bouquet!

Courtney's maids bouquets had white Avalanche garden roses, white peonys, tuberose and were collared with baby's breath and galax leaves.

We loved these baby breath poufs that the bride wanted! This was the largest order of baby's breath that we have ever used at one time! Fun! How about a great job by the family to transform the large venue? There were between 700-800 tissue poufs everywhere!

The ability to control lighting was a bonus. With the hanging twinkle chandeliers and candlelight, the space became magical!

Britney + Jarred at Diamond Woods Golf Course, Monroe, Oregon

We have learned through the years that many parts of a wedding are under the bride or her family's control. The decisions they make are the ones they expect to see on their special day. One aspect that is out of everyone's control is that of the weather. So, that being said, Britney and Jarred had one of those Oregon rain-touched summer weddings. Many decisions were reconsidered as the day developed and the weather did not improve. Thankfully, their venue did have many inside options. The bride handled every unexpected turn with grace and understanding.

We share this first picture to prove that even rain can be fun!
AND the best news, the skies cleared for their ceremony!

Britney's bouquet held white hydrangeas, a variety of white roses, white lisianthus and beautiful metalina roses. The bouquet was collared with one of our favorites: galax leaves.

A family heirloom pearl necklace was used on the bride's bouquet wrap. This was perfect for these flowers. Even the clasp on this necklace was beautiful. We love adding sentimental pieces to our bouquets.

Such a beautiful group of women!

We delivered the maid's bouquets in Bllumeboxes with details to match those of the white hydrangea centerpieces.

Simply classic white hydrangeas in black Blumeboxes accented with ivory ribbon and the bride and groom's monograms. So pretty!

Elizabeth and Nick: An intimate woodland wedding

Elizabeth and Nick came to us with a color palette of soft peach, champagne shades, soft greens, and browns to use in their natural woodsy themed wedding. Oh, how we embraced their vision. We loved the challenge this wedding brought to us!

We used a variety of florals and added fern curls, succulents, honeysuckle vine, an artichoke and even an air fern. We loved this bouquet and thought it was perfect for our bride and groom's vision.

Nick's boutonneire carried the theme even further with succulent, fern curl and some beautiful lichen.

We used an antique doily, provided by the bride as a wrap, adding to the beauty.

We knew we loved this wedding. When the bride sent us these kind words, we knew we had met her expectations! "Thank you both for the GORGEOUS bouquet, boutenieres and corsages. They were all stunning. I LOVE the bouquet, the colors and textures were incredible and really looked beautiful with my dress. I had no idea I would feel so immediately attached to my bouquet. I think for me it was the biggest thing to represent me being a bride!"

Kelsey and Joe marry along the Willamette River!

Our beautiful bride Kelsey! We were so honored to design the flowers for Kelsey and Joe's summer wedding. Peggy has known Joe's parents for more than 35 years, so this we certainly special for her. The wedding took place at a private residence on the Willamette River.

Classic white rose bouquet. We used three different sizes of white roses to achieve this look. Stunning and beautiful.

Peach, white, and navy were the colors Kelsey and Joe selected. Loved the clean lines of the peach and white roses Kelsey chose for her maids. Bouquets were wrapped with a lighter peach satin. Yummy!

Staying cool in the shade in the late afternoon heat. Who would have thought that the July 4th weekend in Oregon would be HOT!

A special moment as Kelsey's father escorted a radiant bride toward her groom.

A great use for the carnation orbs that lined the aisle. We transfered these to cylinder vases for the head table. Loved the custom designed table runners!

Springtime Wedding Corvallis Bezeall Memorial Forest

We always love to see that first look photograph. What a wonderful opportunity to see a couple and their connection. We appreciate how difficult it is for a photographer to capture this moment. Great catch, Trudy Ewing!

Springtime in western Oregon is a beautiful time. Wonderful flowers to choose from. Our bride wanted a woodsy garden look for her celebration. Purple anemones were the perfect accent to the white and spring green. This bouquet was wrapped with some fun dark brown twine. Fun, whimsical, and woodsy! Congratulations Lucy and Joey! We look forward to seeing the professional photographs.

The maid's bouquets were garden inspired spring green and white. A great look for a wedding at Oregon's Beazell Memorial Forest.

The groom's bouttoneire had a sentimental dragonfly in honor of his father. What a wonderful way to honor his memory. We love to add meaning to our pieces for our brides and grooms.

Celebration Florals goes to Maui for Scott and Mariah's sunset wedding!

Who wouldn't love the opportunity to travel to Maui? And better yet, who wouldn't love the opportunity to design the wedding florals for such an event? We were honored to be designing the flowers for Scott and Mariah on the beautiful island of Maui!

Not only was this couple hot, so was some of the entertainment! We'll start with the ending, just for fun!

Mariah's bouquet was all white, with a touch of very dark purple...delicious to view, and the scent was even better!

The maid's carried bouquets of white, green, and we added in the faintest amount of purple in the throats of the green dendrobiums.

Maui weather can be most unpredictable...if you aren't liking it at the moment, just wait...a few seconds after the picture was snapped, the girls got some relief as the sun briefly stepped behind a cloud.

A simple treatment for an already gorgeous setting!

Mariah and her parents begin their walk toward Scott...a special moment for everyone.

An honor to be married in the traditional Hawaiian way. We loved the special touch this added.

Kaitlin + Ace + Eagle Rock Lodge = Beautiful

Who wouldn't fall in love with Kaitlin and her family? We adored working with Kait and her mother as they planned this wonderful wedding at Eagle Rock Lodge on the beautiful McKenzie River. There were so many personal touches throughout the event, it was obviously a work of love. Kait's bouquet was designed with her request for lots of color, texture, and different elements.

Many of our brides request a family heirloom be incorporated into their bouquet. This hankie was carried by several generations of brides.

First looks are always so wonderful. This one did not disappoint!

LOVED the dress colors for the bridesmaids with the natural beauty of Eagle Rock Lodge on the McKenzie River.

Nicole and Bill are married!

We were delighted to be selected to design Nicole and Bill's flowers for their recent wedding. The wedding and reception were held on the family's dairy farm. All of the buildings and grounds were polished to perfection. So many memories with this family! Many thanks to Phillip Wise photography for sharing the following images with us! Nicole's bouquet included all white flowers, with a touch of brown from the fern curls, and a collar of seeded eucalyptus. Beautiful flowers for a beautiful bride!

Nicole's mother was a wonderful friend to both of us. She passed away many years ago, but remains very special to both of us. Nicole chose to have her pin prominent on her bouquet handle. There were a few tears shed completing this bouquet.

To honor her paternal grandmother, Nicole asked us to tuck in one of the many owls collected by her grandmother. This bouquet was so much more than just the flowers!

The maids carried beautiful handtied bouquets featuring dahlias, mokara orchids hypericum, and blupurum to add some movement. All of our bouquets are delivered in personalized vases so that they may be featured after the ceremony. We always have fun finding a way to personalize these!

Who wouldn't love a ride like this? Not sure how they decided who got to drive!

Not to be outdone by her maids, Nicole's father drove her to the ceremony. We LOVE this ride!

We love the pure joy captured in our bride's expression!

The wedding was held on the family's dairy farm. Many beautiful locations for photos.

It was an honor to design the wedding florals for Elizabeth and Karl at Paradise Springs, in Monroe, Oregon. Elizabeth chose a classic color scheme of shades of red and accents of green. Beautiful!

Paradise Springs offers so many wonderful photography opportunities. These photos were all shot by Blue Castle Photography. We love their work!
These orbs were used as ceremony accents and then were moved into the lodge as accent pieces there. We love the stands provided by Paradise.

Classic cube vases were used for the tables. Once again the red and green accents provided just the right amount of color.

We love how the orbs tranferred into the lodge and provided a pop of color on the bar.

Elizabeth chose to do an additional photo shoot with her beloved Paloma. We fell in love with these pictures, too!

A beautiful summer wedding started at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corvallis, Oregon. The reception followed at Garden in the Woods; a venue with so many wonderful elements!
We loved Shelby's colors of pinks and green! Who doesn't love stephanotis...nothing quite like it.

It's Orange and Blue at Paradise Springs!

Jenn and Justin chose a color scheme of orange and blue for their July wedding at Paradise Springs, a beautiful venue located just outside of Monroe Oregon. We loved designing all of the floral elements that Jenn selected. From the floral orbs, to the flower girl pomanders, to the individual floral cake centerpieces, to the beautiful bouquets. We LOVED EVERYTHING about this wedding, bride and her family!

We have had a fantastic summer wedding season...so busy that the blogging got left behind...The good news for our brides is that we spent all of our time designing and creating one of a kind wedding florals just for them...The bad news, if there is any, is that we weren't able to share them with our friends here in a timely manner.
So, let the fun begin!
This July 2nd bride selected a wonderful color palette of reds, oranges, pinks, and a touch of green. Yummy, as you can see from the photographs! We loved designing these beautiful bouquets. Local peonies for Arwen and Peter's wedding July 24th at Beazell...could there be anything more beautiful? We think not! This bouquet was stunning! The bride and groom are absolutely delightful. What an adventure they are about to embark on together...on to Australia! We wish you all the best and are sorry we are losing you to Australia, Arwen! Arwen's maids carried wonderful garden style bouquets with delicious garden style roses, alstromeria, kolanchoe and a few other surprises! Yum!

What flower girl wouldn't be delighted to carry this around for the event?

Jerry and Erin are Married!

The weather cleared, the skies were blue and it was a wonderful spring day at Dancing Deer in Cheshire Oregon. We loved meeting Erin, the bride. It was so fun to hear how she and Jerry met. We knew Jerry and his family when we were all much, much younger! Jerry, the groom, was a first and second grader in Peggy's classroom!

Erin selected bright fun colors of yellow, orange, red and lime green! Her bouquet also had an accent of purple!
Beautiful bride, beautiful weather, beautiful event! Congratulations!
